We at Scrapbook USA are SO excited about the latest addition to our show! CARE WITH CARDS! With Scrapbook USA coming up in about 1 month and National Craft Month beginning in a few days it is the perfect time for all of us to pitch in and get something done!!

CARE WITH CARDS is a way for all of us to work together using our crafting skills to make a difference for others. Plus, it is easy! Make a card, bring it to the show and we will donate it to an organization that can use it to put a smile on someone's face.

Easy right?? I know we have TONS of talented paper crafter's that attend our show. Together we will be able to make literally thousands of cards. The best part is that each of these handmade and unique cards will be able to be placed in the hands of those who need a way to share their love with somebody else.

So, let's get on to the details and then let's get crafty! For our Spring 2012 show we have chosen to work together with Operation Write Home! I will share more about this amazing organization later or you can learn more at operationwritehome.org.

All cards donated to Operation Write Home are sent to military bases around the world. Soldiers are able to pick out a card at no charge to them. They are then able to send it home to someone special!

Instead of having to purchase a generic card or using lined paper or e-mail to send their love on Birthdays, Anniversaries or other special occasions we are able to share cute, creative and unique cards that they will be able to use to share their love.

Here is the criteria:
* No Glitter
* If using dark cardstock, use a liner on the inside so the writing by the soldier will show
* Only 4.25" x 5.5" in size - half a sheet of cardstock
* Some lumpiness is ok but save the buttons for another project
* No handwritten sentiments
* Include an envelope for the card

Before you start trimming your cardstock, there are a few "themes" that are in need right now. They include:

Love (not Valentine's, just "Love")
Teenager Birthday
"Just Because"
"Thinking of You"

Those are the 4 themes that need the most attention but Birthday (adults and kids), Anniversary, miss you, Mother's Day, and Father's Day are themes that they would love to receive as well.

Plus, volunteers from Operation Write Home will be at the show with activities for the kids so they can be involved as well. Plus, they will have more information on their wonderful organization.

I am so excited to get "Care With Cards" going and to work together with Operation Write Home as well as the other organizations we will be able to work with in the future. Together we will be able to give to others while enjoying the crafting we love.

"Do your best work! Our heroes are giving up so much for us and they deserve the very best we can create for them. Plus - as hard as it is to think about, it's possible your card may be the final communication between a hero and their loved ones at home...make sure it's the best work you know how to do, that it's on good cardstock that will last well in a scrapbook, and that everything's attached securely and won't fall apart. These cards may be heirlooms - so let's create some really beautiful ones!"

Another Great Class Added!

I am so EXCITED about the classes being offered at The Original Scrapbook USA Expo this March! Another fun class was just added this morning. Close To My Heart will be teaching an hour long technique filled class on cards and tags! Imagine the possibilities with these cute cards! Techniques that can be used in so many other ways! This interactive class is only being taught once! Friday from 9-10 am!

I have been away for awhile - actually since our Fall show! But, now that the holidays are over our 2012 shows are top priority! Lot's going on right now as plans are being put together for March. Here is an inside look at Scrapbook USA Expo pre-show!

I arrived at around 8:00 am and things were SO quite, almost creepy. The Expo Center is so weird before everyone gets there!!

I got my car unloaded and it wasn't long before the vendors started arriving! So fun to re-connect with old friends and meet new friends face to face for the first time!

I could have spent ALOT of time browsing, but too much to do, so I took a few quick photos on my way out! Enjoy your first photo peek at Scrapbook USA Expo Fall 2011!! Looking forward to seeing all of you this weekend!!

Frequently Asked Questions + The Answers

We are only a few weeks away from Scrapbook USA Expo Fall 2011! This is the time when I start getting a lot of e-mails and phone calls with questions on the "ins and outs" of the show. I love getting the calls but since there are some questions that I know alot of you have, here they are, with the answers! If you have any other questions on Scrapbook USA, post them here and I will answer them! Looking forward to a BIG show in September!

Question: What is the difference between regular admission and early bird entrance?

Regular admission is $12.00 and gives you entrance to the show at 10:00 a.m. on either day. We do have coupons available to save $2.00 on this entrance. Early Bird gives you early entrance to the show at 9:00 am plus a goodie bag from our sponsors that includes a small snack, coupons and product. Coupons cannot be used with the early bird. Early bird is awesome because you can start shopping your favorite vendors FIRST and have first pick of the many cropping tables for you and your friends to use. You cannot use a coupon on early bird entrance.

Do I have to buy my tickets online?

NO. We have 5 ticket windows available for ticket purchasing at the show. We offer online tickets for those who would like to use the service but we are happy to sell the tickets at the door.

Why is there a service fee for some online tickets and not others?

We use an outside company to facilitate our online tickets so this company charges a per ticket fee to make their money. Scrapbook USA is paying the service fee on regular tickets, so you are not seeing that fee. We are not covering the fee on early bird tickets so it is being passed on to you.

Do vendors take credit cards?

Yes, most of them do. Occasionally we have a vendor who does not process credit cards so make sure to bring at least a little cash as you will also need cash or check to pay for entrance to the show. There are ATM machines located in the Expo Center.

Does a Young Scrapper's Ticket include entrance to the show?

Yes it sure does. This is an absolutely incredible deal for your 8-16 year old. A $12.00 (no coupons can be used) Young Scrapper's ticket will include regular entrance to the show on FRIDAY and access to the Young Scrapper's midnight party. The party will be in the classrooms in the foyer from 7:00-midnight and includes karaoke, dancing, nail painting, hair glitter, open cropping using our cuttlebug machines and fun make-n-takes. Incredibly fun event for the up and coming crafter!

Why is electrical not widely available at the show?

First, we wish it was :). Electricity has to be paid for when doing an event at the expo center. It runs about $75.00 for an outlet. To make it more widely available we rent it and make it available in our VIP area and in Saturday's reserved seating area. Also, new at this show we will have electrical available in the Digi Lounge. There is NO cost to shop in the Digi Lounge. There will be work stations set up around the digi vendors where you will be able to use electrical for a small fee. Once you check out of your work station you will receive a gift pack of coupons from our digital vendors to use online after the show. If your laptop has a great battery you are welcome to work in the digital lounge at no charge.

What is the Digi Lounge?

The Digi Lounge is a new area of booths at the show that will contain only Digital companies. They will be ready to help, inspire and share tips on making layouts, cards and other projects digitally. You will also be able to crop in the Digi Lounge on your laptops and know you have these wonderful people only a few feet away if you need any pointers or help along the way. The world of digital has so much to offer in additional resources for scrapper's so visit these great vendors and see how easy it is to simplify some of your paper projects by doing them online!

How early should I come to get a table for cropping?

Hard to say but if you are coming with a group of friends and want a whole table for yourselves please plan on coming early (before lunch). Tables will fill up. We do have an overflow area of tables behind the booths in the northwest corner but because of how sound travels that area is a bit louder than if you were on the show floor.

How does the Expo decide what music to play?

We have asked our MC to play a variety of music from 70's to today. We also ask for different genres to be represented. He is open and willing to take your requests and play them so, if you want to hear something, just let him know.

Why did the show go away from paper coupons that could be picket up at local stores?

Convenience for our attendees was the reason. Many attendees do not have local scrap stores near them and others would travel to a store and find out that the coupons were either gone and the store had not let us know they needed more or the employees did not know where the coupons were. We wanted a solution that would be easy and convenient and would also be supportive to our vendors.

Do I have to buy my tickets online to use the coupon code?

No, all vendors also have pdf coupons that you can print and bring to the show. If you are having a hard time finding a coupon check our blog list here and if they don't have the code posted, send them a message and I think you will get a quick reply. Feel free to share on our Facebook page and blog a link to where you found your code. We have AWESOME companies that exhibit at our show and we really want to support their online blogs and websites too!

I am so excited to share some really big news!!

A new area of shopping is being added to our September show!! YES! More shopping opportunities! Our new shopping area will be known as...(drum roll please)...

THE DIGI LOUNGE

I've gotta say, I am so thrilled and excited for this new shopping area. Our newest addition has been in the works since before the March show and it is coming together REALLY nice. I am excited to introduce you to the talented and creative vendors that will be making up our first every Digi Lounge. The first introductions start tomorrow.

I have been fascinated with the digital options that have been cropping up over the past few years and even though I am not yet a digi scrapper, I am really looking forward to September's show and being able to get a hands on peek at all the things I could (and will) do with my computer.

Here are some more details on what to expect:

*The Digi Lounge will be a section of the show all it's own

*There will only be Digi vendors in the Digi Lounge

*Work Stations will be available within the Digi Lounge area available for you to sit down near the vendors and do some work with their expertise only a few footsteps away

* Internet and electrical will be available for your laptop for a small fee within the Digi Lounge

*Fun promotions will be going on within the lounge, so don't miss this part of the show

We have had so many great teachers share their talent and work at Scrapbook USA Expo over the past 10 years, but who are YOUR favorites and WHY?

We work hard in between shows to bring talent, innovation and creativity to all the classes being offered at the show. This show will bring nothing less. What Do YOU Do In The Summertime?

I am loving spending so much time with my kids that doesn't involve homework! Of course the house is messier with everyone being home and I'm refereeing more spats than usual. But we are still spreading the love through spending time together. So far this summer, we have hiked to Ghost Falls and Battle Creek Falls (both beginner and good for children); hit the water park a few times; made homemade doughnuts with Grandma (I am not a cook); and had cousin sleepovers.

Quick Gift Idea

Last weekend was my Mom's Birthday and I was put in charge of one small part, order part of her gift then pick it up. It was on my to-do list for about a month and I even did it a dozen times in my head but things have been so crazy that I didn't actually do it. With a few hours to spare I tried to order it and pick it up at the same time but that didn't work. So, I needed a temporary stand in, quick! Isn't it great to be a crafter?? We can usually throw something together pretty quick and have it look cute at the same time. I started with this:

I think this would be a great idea for a centerpiece on a table or for a teacher. My Mom's final gift will be an arrangement of house plants in a basket that she saved from my Dad's Funeral. The original plants in this basket lasted for a number of years and ever since they died she has wanted to get something new planted inside. I think she will be pleased when she can move this little vase to the side and have the basket full of greenery in her home. I hope she isn't reading this!!

June is Finally Here!

June is a popular month for weddings! I was married in June and my parents were married in June also (the day before us). My inlaw's went for another popular time for love ~ February 14th.

If you haven't already done so, get copies of your parents and grandparents wedding photos, share them with your children through a layout. Don't forget to ask how they met and for details on their engagement story, honeymoon and early years.

Baby Girl Project

Last week I was working on some teacher end of school gifts but before I got that finished up it was time to switch over to Baby Shower invitations for my Sister-in Law's shower this weekend. I used a darling collection of paper from 3 Bugs In A Rug called "Savannah" that I absolutely LOVE! Granted I have 4 princesses of my own so I am drawn towards pink castles, fairies, wands.

I also used "Storybook" Cricut Cartridge to add some flair to the front. This cartridge has ended up being one of my absolute favorites. When I bought it I had no idea I would end up using it all the time.

So, I am pretty happy with how they turned out. Here is the front of them!

Ever felt like it would be easier to pull your own teeth than come up with something cute and fun to journal on a scrapbook layout? It doesn't have to be such misery. Watch for quotes and prompts throughout the blog regularly to help you get started. Adding that extra special feeling and meaning to a page makes a great layout even better. Sometimes the picture tells the whole story and you don't want to clutter things. So add a quote that sums it all up.

Bottom line-don't be afraid to share your story through your writing. Leave your feelings for posterity, along with the photos.

when you take the picture before wiping the blood off your kid's scrapes.

It has been so fun to read these, I have been crackin up all by myself, mostly because I can relate and also because I actually am thinking that wallpapering my bathroom with some of my paper would be really cute! Wouldn't it??

Young Scrapper's Club

At the last show we introduced our new Young Scrapper's Club for the first time. For those of you who missed out, I hope you bring the young ladies in your life to the Fall Friday night get together. Here is a little re-cap from our spring show....

Visions Salon from Sandy, Utah painted nails...

Scribble Scrabble, Scrap 4 Less, Doodle Dragon Designs and Nikki Sivils taught techniques and new skills with make-n-takes...

Provo Craft provided Cuttle Bug machines and plenty of accessories for the girls to work on their own projects...

Then there was the party room. The lights were dimmed and there was plenty going on including dancing, glitter tattoos, hair coloring (washout), treats and karaoke....

We even brought in adult "supervision" to set a good example for our young crafter's! My 2 daughters were there and are still talking about the fun they had. We are already lining up the sponsors for the Fall show and I think they will come with more fantastic make-n-takes and opportunities to teach our young girls the art of Scrapbooking!

Thanks for taking a peek at our new blog!! Technically we are still in the designing phase but no problem, I am ready to get started now!

National Scrapbooking Day is coming up tomorrow but Saturday's are too hectic around here to do any scrapbooking so let's change it to National Scrapbooking WEEK instead.
