Care With Cards - September's Theme!

September is just around the corner! OK, not really! We still need a little summer relaxation! But, IT IS time to get together on our "Care With Cards" program for the September show! We collected well over 3000 cards at our Spring show!! That is incredible!! I know we can do even more at the fall show!

We will continue to support and work with Operation Write home this September but in addition I am thrilled that we will also have the opportunity to work with the Huntsman Cancer Institute at The University of Utah! So many of us have been impacted by cancer in one way or another and we have a great opportunity to support and lift the many people who will have their lives changed by a cancer diagnosis. There will be 3 collection stations at the Fall show. Lot's of ways to be involved! Start creating now and bring your cards to the show!

SO -- Let's get started!!

1- Cancer Institute Cards: Thousands of patients walk through the doors of the Huntsman Cancer Institute each year. Some have short stays but many stay for prolongued periods of time. While they are hospitalized for treatment they are missing the birthdays of their loved ones. Our donated cards will help these patients to have FREE access to cards for their loved ones. The needs here are a little specific but there are 2 types of cards that can really help these patients.

 **BIRTHDAY
(adult, teen and child)
**THANK YOU
(Thank You cards will be used for patients to write sentiments to Family, Friends and Staff during their stay)

2- Healing Arts & Emotional Creativity Kits: Many of the patients receiving treatment at the Huntsman Institute are children. One of the ways that helps them during their various stages of treatment is to have a creative outlet. A great resource for the hospital are card kits. These kits will give the patients an opportunity to use their time and energy in a creative way. Studies have shown that projects like this are a great tool for healing their emotions and body's as they go through challenging times. Each kit should be in a ziploc or plastic bag and should include a picture of the completed card with instructions if necessary. All pieces to the card must be pre-cut. You do not need to include adhesive. The theme of the cards should include, Thank You, Birthday, blank and Just Because. Please label the kit with the theme of the card so they are easy to recognize (ie. boy birthday, mom birthday, etc). Please consider making a few kits!! I have some that I am working on right now and will share them once they are ready to go!

3 - Operation Write Home: The work going on at Operation Write Home is absolutely amazing!! Hundreds of Thousands of cards have been sent to our U.S. Soldiers thanks to this wonderful group. Remember there are some rules on the cards. Please refer to their website for specifics. They are especially in need of the following:
Birthday Adult
Birthday Teen
Thinking of You
Just Because

The holidays will be coming fast right after our show so any Gratitude Cards and Christmas Cards would be great too.

Here are a few of the BEAUTIFUL cards that were donated at the Spring show!! Check us out on Pinterest also. I will be pinning MANY card ideas!!
